Moonfrost May Update

The countdown to Early Access continues, and May introduced new ways to jump in. From the launch of the Social Quest and Early Access Bundle sale to a first look at CRYO and behind-the-scenes progress on character customisation, here is your full recap of everything that happened in May.

Dev Update: Early Look at Character Customisation Features

Joe, our Senior Artist, has been refining the character editor, giving players more freedom to express themselves through updated visuals and interface improvements.

Custom Colours & Clothing Layers

Joe has been working on allowing the base clothing layer to be adjusted more freely. The top and bottom halves can now be customised independently, offering players more control over their look.

The player will be able to access a variation of colours to customise their base layer.  It behaves slightly differently from how other outfits will work in the future, so the team is still deciding whether to keep it fully customisable or offer a curated set of colour presets to reduce potential confusion.

This feature is still being tested internally and has not yet been shared publicly. We’ll share more once it’s ready for community feedback.

Hair Customisation: Layer Masks & Colour Variations

Joe has been exploring a layered colour system for hair, using shader masks to allow players more styling options. The idea is to give hairstyles added depth and personal flair by separating the colour into top and bottom layers.

Two directions are currently being explored:

  1. Predefined styles that include layered colour by default

  2. A toggle system that lets players switch the layer effect on or off

This system is still in development, but it's shaping up to be a meaningful step forward for personalisation. More updates will be shared once it’s ready for broader testing.

Ready to go on a Quest?

In May, Moonfrost Social Questing officially launched and gave players their first chance to earn entry into Early Access.

Players began claiming Gnome Keys by collecting points through quests like following social channels, setting up Open Loot accounts, and inviting friends. Three claim waves were released throughout the month, with one special batch awarded through a community raffle.

Each wave included 500 keys, with the first rounds requiring 20,000 points to claim. The number of points needed is expected to rise in future waves, so early players got a great head start.

The launch of the Social Quest also helped push the Moonfrost X account past 100,000 followers, a major milestone as we build toward Early Access.

The Quest Board continues to refresh weekly with new challenges and ways to earn, so it is worth checking back often.

Gnome Keys are your ticket into the first phase of Moonfrost Early Access, and yes, the gnomes are definitely watching what you do with them.

Early Access Bundle Sale

In May, the Moonfrost Early Access Bundle went live on Open Loot, offering players an exclusive set of items to kick off their journey. Each bundle included a Gnome Key for Early Access entry, a FROST Workbench for crafting, a Luck Charm to boost earning potential, and a FROSTprint to make your first FROST Tool. Some lucky players also received a stack of Liquid Luck!

Only 500 bundles were available, and the whitelist phase sold out almost instantly. Because of the overwhelming demand, the public sale did not take place.

If you missed out, there is still a chance to join the next drop. The upcoming OG Mystery Box sale will offer a new path to gear up before launch.

CRYO: First Look at the In-Game Currency

CRYO is Moonfrost’s soft currency, earned through gameplay and designed to simulate $FROST (token).

Players will be able to:

  • Earn CRYO through in-game activities

  • Spend CRYO on crafting, upgrading, and unlocking content

  • Swap CRYO for Mystery Boxes (date tbc)

  • Spending CRYO directly in-game will offer stronger value than converting it.

Economy Reveal

As a quick reminder, the Moonfrost Wiki is live and will continue to be updated with all the latest gameplay systems, crafting guides, and economy breakdowns. If you are looking for a head start before Early Access, that is where you should start.

We shared the first full overview of the Moonfrost economy, outlining how players will earn and spend across various in-game systems. At the center of it all is Luck, a stat influenced by your equipped FROST Tools and the Charms you fuse into them. The more Luck you have, the greater your chances of unlocking rewards.

There are two main ways to earn through gameplay:

  • Loot Drops, which can occur when using FROST Tools

  • FROST Tasks, which reward CRYO or $FROST (post TGE) upon completion

As revealed in the Tokenomics section, Moonfrost will feature one utility token, $FROST, and several soft currencies:

  • CRYO is the off-chain soft currency earned through gameplay, can be spent directly in-game for upgrades and crafting, or exchanged for Mystery Boxes once the FROST token is live.

  • Liquid Luck is the premium hard currency for high-value upgrades

  • Sil, CraftCoin, and Upgrade Points support everyday progression through item purchases, crafting, and upgrades.

If you are planning to play and optimise earning during Early Access, this is the place to start.

These crates provide NFTs like Charms, FROSTbenches, and FROSTprints. Charms can optionally be fused into FROST Tools. Players use FROST Tools in Special Orders and Live Ops Events to earn $FROST or $CRYO. Earned currency can be used to enter more events or upgrade earning power. Broken FROST Tools can be replaced through this loop. The flow ends with ongoing progression and rewards within the Moonfrost ecosystem.

A Thank You to Jase

This month also brings a heartfelt moment for the Moonfrost team. Jase, our longtime Marketing and Community Lead, will be stepping down from his role on 13th June.

Over the past three and a half years, Jase helped shape the voice of Moonfrost from the very beginning. From managing five Alpha tests to cultivating one of the most welcoming communities in Web3 gaming, his work is woven into every corner of the project.

As Jase shared:

“It honestly didn’t feel like I was even working most of the time, just enjoying chatting to friends on Discord who just so happened to be interested in this awesome farming game called Moonfrost.”

He’s not disappearing entirely, though —  he will now join the community instead of leading it, something he is truly excited for!

From all of us at Moonfrost, thank you Jase. You’ve been one of a kind.

May FAQ

Q. What are the factory assets?

Players who hold Frost-Hunter License NFTs will be eligible for more NFT rewards as we expand the system.

Q. Do I need to use the same email for my Moonfrost and Open Loot accounts?

If you are using the same Epic account from AR5 or earlier, logging into Open Loot once will automatically link your progress.

If you're coming in fresh through Open Loot, you can enter your email in-game to receive a verification message and move your balance over to your Open Loot-based account.

Q. What makes $FROST special? Why do players need it?

FROST is Moonfrost’s utility token, with a max supply of one billion. It is an ERC-20 token and will become earnable in-game once it is trading.

Players will be able to earn FROST by using Frost Tools and completing Frost Tasks. Until the token is listed, you can earn CRYO instead, which serves as the soft currency during Early Access.

Q. What does max issuance mean?

Max issuance applies to some collectible items like FROST Prints, FROST Workbenches in Moonfrost. It means we control the total supply and do not release everything at once.

This approach allows us to maintain the supply levels listed in the Wiki. When items or tokens are upgraded or removed from circulation, they return to the team’s control. We will only reintroduce them if the available supply drops below the intended circulating amount.

Q. Are the Early Access bundle items tradable?

Yes. All items in the Early Access Bundle are tradable, except for Liquid Luck if you managed to receive one as a bonus. Liquid Luck is a premium in-game currency and cannot be traded.

Q. What are the benefits of playing during Early Access? Will Frost Tools be tradable?

Getting into Early Access means you can start earning before anyone else, as long as you have a Gnome Key.

Frost Tools themselves are not tradable, but they play a key role in how you earn in-game.
