What is Moonfrost’s premise?Join the FROST-Hunter Association and become a FROST-Hunter in a to unravel the secrets of an incredibly valuable, mysterious and transformative material which has begun falling from the sky to help re-build the world.
-
What is the rationale for Moonfrost’s premise? We want to offer our players a unique experience in the life-sim genre and one of the ways we believe we can do that is by having a premise that really contextualizes Moonfrost's gameplay, places them in a role that unites us all (both us as developers and you -- our awesome community) and can exist both in AND outside of the game and gives us the creative space for compelling in-game progression. It includes the following: Embodiment breeds immersion A strong premise that appeals to the intended target audience has always proven to be highly effective regardless of genre or audience, mainly because it gives players a fantasy to live out that contextualises the gameplay and helps gives it meaning. Focus on gameplay Not having to spend time and resources on narrative design gives us more time and resources to spend on what players (especially web3 players) typically care about most: great and varied gameplay! Gameplay contextualisation This premise explains why players are doing what they are doing in the game (i.e. playing-to-earn). Blueprint contextualisation This premise explains not only what Blueprints are but also how they come to be.

Does Moonfrost have a story — and if so what is it/how will it be told?Yes — Moonfrost has a story. While we can’t tell you exactly what the story is (we’d prefer you find out for yourself!) we CAN tell you that it revolves around uncovering the secrets of FROST. Years ago, a calamity transpired. The sky ignited. Large shards of a mysterious mineral rained from above. We called it 'First FROSTfall'. The world was thrown into chaos and disrepair — many forced to abandon their homes and leave their dreams behind. Before long, the FROST-Hunter Association (F.H.A.) was formed, an organisation dedicated to the study of FROST and the recruitment of FROST-Hunters: brave volunteers willing to travel the world searching for FROST and helping to re-build the world.
-
What is FROST?FROST is a mysterious substance that suddenly began falling from the sky quite recently — i.e. the central narrative device of the game — and is also the token of Moonfrost. It’s initial appearance is referred to as ‘First FROSTfall’ — a cataclysmic event that caused a great deal of damage and chaos. Since then, the F.H.A. has discovered FROST’s transmutative capabilities, allowing for incredible new technologies to emerge powered by both FROST and Biofuel — a clean source of energy produced via FROST. It has also been documented that FROST appears to have a lifecycle where, if it falls and isn't mined for long enough, it hardens and becomes unusable/non-extractable.
-
What is the F.H.A.?The FROST-Hunter Association (or "FHA") is a enigmatic organization that rose up soon after the second moon appeared in the sky which periodically sheds FROST from the skies above down to Earth. Its sole purpose was the acquisition, study and application of FROST, leading to incredible new technologies such as the Earthquaker, Biofuel and creating new objects by combining commodities with FROST (i.e. our Blueprints). Before long, the FHA started recruiting civilians into its ranks as FROST-Hunters, tasking them with locating FROST wherever it landed in exchange for a % of their findings (i.e. token burning), FROST infusion (which is why the player can break rocks with their bare hands ), the promise of great wealth and adventure and access to FHA technologies. While anyone can sign up to become a FROST-Hunter, only a select few are fully registered FROST-Hunters, which requires a FHA-approved FROST-Hunter License -- bestowing them with unique perks and privileges Exactly what the FHA's interest is in FROST is, however, is (for now) a mystery.

Where does Moonfrost take place?Moonfrost takes place in the rural countryside of Britain next to a fictional town simply known as The Village. This is the location where FROST-Hunters are being sent to by the FROST-Hunter Association as that it is where FROSTappears to be landing at the moment. Each player will have their own private map, known as the Homestead, where they can farm/ gather resources/ craft/ build their home:
-
How would you describe Moonfrost?Start a new life as a FROST-Hunter in a social, modern day reimagining of the pixel life-sim farming RPG. Discover, collect, craft and gather in an ever-evolving shared world as you unravel the secrets of FROST: a metamorphic mineral that has begun falling from the sky with the remarkable appearance of a mysterious second moon. Combining fan-favourite features of the genre such as decorating, fishing and cooking with unique time-limited gameplay modes, this is Moonfrost - and the adventure is only just beginning!
-
What are the design pillars of Moonfrost?Collection — Moonfrost offers lots of ways to experience the joy of collection completion Community — Moonfrost fosters working together both in and out of the game Creativity — Moonfrost allows for and encourage players to express themselves Discovery — Moonfrost encourages players to experiment and reward them for doing so Embodiment — Moonfrost makes players feel like they really are a FROST-Hunter Juice — Moonfrost provides a premium gameplay experience that always looks and feels satisfying

What will the game loop of Moonfrost be?

What are Blueprints?Blueprints are collectible crafting recipes of varying rarity which allow players to create all manner of in-game items — such as Tools or Decorations — at specific Craft Sites. Their existence and capabilities are facilitated by FROST-reliant top secret technology utilised by the FROST-Hunter Association, allowing for specialised crafting stations to read the Blueprint, break down items at a molecular level, absorb said molecules and (somehow) rearrange them to produce the item displayed on the Blueprint — such are the marvels of FROST! Blueprints were originally conceived as Moonfrost Collectible Cards — which has since been deprecated as a concept as we didn’t feel surfacing them as “cards” was the right fit for the game! How do players get Blueprints? The Blueprint Tech-tree (TBA) Completing in-game tasks/quests Levelling up Buying them from Blueprint Vending Machines whose stock rotates regularly Buying them from NPC Shops Improving relationships with NPCs Blueprint Capsules — special Blueprint containers scattered throughout the gameworld Winning them from time-limited Live Events What are Blueprints used for? Earning XP — players will be rewarded XP if/when they crafted a Blueprint for the first time (known as Blueprint Activation) Completing in-game tasks/quests Improving gameplay capabilities — e.g. new/superior Tools Expanding customisation options Crafting other Blueprints — e.g. you may new a Wooden Chair in order to craft the Golden Chair Accessing otherwise inaccessible content — e.g. being able to enter a certain in-game location or feature because you own a specific Blueprint How do you use Blueprints? Acquire the/a Blueprint Acquire the items required to craft it Go to the Craft Site where the given Blueprint can be crafted Select the Blueprint you wish to craft This Some Blueprints may feature crafting caps, meaning you may only craft a specific amount of the related item from it — e.g.: Blueprint A has a crafting cap of [10] The player crafts Blueprint A 10 times The player cannot craft any more instances of Blueprint A The player sells on crafted item produced from Blueprint A at a NPC Shop The player may now craft one more instance of Blueprint A

Who is Moonfrost’s target audience — and why?Moonfrost is first and foremost, regardless of its inclusion of Web3 elements, designed and developed for fans of the genre — players who loved and enjoyed (or still love and enjoy) games like Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing. Players who want more games like this. But better! Newer! Fresher! A new game in this genre which aims to improve upon and innovate within the space without losing what they know and love about it. Players who enjoy things like collecting, customising, socialising and discovery — which are what games like Stardew and Animal Crossing are all about! We know that some traditional players may be put off by the presence of things like NFTs or tokens in our game — and that’s totally okay. But our hope is that the care, dedication, polish and design of the game will encourage as many people as possible to at least step inside, take a look and see for themselves that we’ve taken every effort possible to make its Web3 elements entirely optional — but still meaningful. All of us at Oxalis are lifelong gamers who have always played just for fun. But hey, if we can have fun and make some pennies from making a game, why not create something that offers the same experience from playing one too! In other words: if you care about that kind of thing, you’ll have a great time. And if you don’t — you’ll still have a great time!
-
How will Moonfrost’s design appeal to its target audience?Moonfrost will appeal to fans of the cozy RPGs — which includes games such as: Stardew Valley Animal Crossing Disney Dreamlight Valley While all games in this space are unique in their own way, most of them incorporate similar “ingredients” in some way, shape or form — which I define as the mechanics, goals and/or motivations the game involves. This includes: Collection Customisation Exploration Crafting Gathering Socialising Optimisation As opposed to “ingredients” such as: Fast-paced action Stealth Platforming Moonfrost offers players various systems and features to satisfy these genre-specific ingredients in order to appeal to its target audience.

What is Moonfrost about — and why?Ultimately, Moonfrost is becoming a master crafter. This is mainly because, as the game currently stands, its biggest and most impressive feature is Build Mode, which was originally intended to purely be a superior form of house customisation to achieve a “Stardew 2.0” vision. However, after a series of pivots and re-designs to meet project requirements or shifting landscapes, Build Mode remains our strong system. So the game’s latest vision (which any game needs for many reasons) has been shaped around it — which isn’t a bad thing! Cozy RPGs are often about collection, creation, discovery and oftentimes UGC, all of which Build Mode allows for in addition to being something compatible with multiplayer and a unique selling point that distinguishes it from competitors. It also provides the game with a strong sink for its core gameplay in the form of Blueprints, each of which offer a new sink for the many items players will spend their time gathering via Crafting, which is what brings all the different types of gameplay in Moonfrost together — be it farming, fishing, or even slaying enemies. All of these things result in the player getting “items” — which need to go somewhere! And, considering that the key utility of $FROST will be crafting-related, this ties in nicely with the narrative behind FROST as a story device: a material with incredible transmutative capabilities that explains how players are able to do the things they do in the game (such as somehow throwing a together a bunch of items to make a chair 😄) This ISN’T to say that all you’ll do in Moonfrost is craft stuff. You’ll fish. You’ll cook. You’ll fight. But it all comes back to becoming a master crafter — someone capable of bending FROST to their ultimate will — and crafting.
-
Will player progression rate be controlled in Moonfrost — and if so why/how?Yes — player progression will be controlled in Moonfrost. This means that players won’t be able to consume all the content available by playing as much as they want — or can. This is fairly typical in premium games as players have already monetised prior to playing. However, being a F2P experience, it’s important that Moonfrost stops this from happening in order to prevent burnout and encourage players to return regularly over a longer period to facilitate conversion. This will be achieved in two ways: Craftcoin A unique currency that players may only earn by completing Daily Tasks — meaning their sourcing is drip-fed and non-grindable. Craftcoin will be essential for crafting many Blueprints and, since Blueprints are central to Moonfrost’s progression, this means player progression rates will be better controlled. Blueprint supply Given the existence of Blueprint Activation, the number of Blueprints in circulation is essentially an XP cap, meaning it is another method for us to control player progression.
-
How will multiplayer work in Moonfrost?Moonfrost will feature two types of multiplayer: ACTIVE multiplayer and PASSIVE multiplayer — both of which will be available in different forms. Forms of ACTIVE multiplayer in Moonfrost (i.e. playing with others is essential to success): Playing in Live Events (e.g. Farm Royale) Destroying certain gameworld objects Entering FROST-tears (i.e. dungeons) Forms of PASSIVE multiplayer in Moonfrost (i.e. playing alongside others is beneficial but not essential): Seeing other players run around the map you’re in Crafting Blueprints at Craft Sites Constructing Blueprint Stencils Inviting other players to your Homestead Farming together Building a house together
-
Will Moonfrost have a metagame — and if so what will it involve? As a live service game — absolutely! The metagame of Moonfrost will be collection-centric and revolve around acquiring all the Blueprints in the game.
-
What Web3 elements will Moonfrost feature?Moonfrost will feature a token called $FROST and NFTs known as FROSTprints and FROSTware.
-
How essential is engaging with Web3 to the Moonfrost experience? In short: it isn’t. Since the beginning, we wanted to pursue an “optional — yet meaningful” philosophy when it came to Web3 elements in Moonfrost to better ensure it could make both traditional player and Web3 players happy. We wanted Moonfrost to be a game for fans of the genre first-and-foremost from both camps! Engaging with anything Web3-related would only be ‘essential’ if: You care about earning, and/or; You want to collect every optional Blueprint in the game If not, you will never need to understand or care about anything Web3 or “crypto” at any point when playing Moonfrost — it will look, feel and play like any other premium-quality game!
-
What currencies will Moonfrost have — and how would they be acquired/used?Moonfrost features several currencies of both the Web2 and Web3 variety:
-
Will Moonfrost have a token — and if so what are its sinks/ sources?Moonfrost’s token is called $FROST: a magic substance that periodically falls from a mysterious second moon in the sky during a weather phenomenon referred to as FROSTfall which caused the creation of the FROST-Hunter Association (i.e. us!) and is essential to the manufacturing of Blueprints and FROSTprints.
-
How will NFTs work in Moonfrost?Moonfrost will feature two types of NFT: FROSTprints FROSTware FROSTprints are essentially tradable Blueprints — they work the exact same way as Blueprints (i.e. they’re crafting recipes that require and produce web2 in-game items) except they can be traded/rented out and their supply is limited! FROSTware are in-game items that aren’t crafted, but can still be traded/rented out, whose simply is also limited. Both FROSTprints and FROSTware will almost always related to enabling and improving your earning potential in Moonfrost.

How is Open Loot better for traditional gamers? The primary benefit, as we see it, is that Open Loot essentially removes the barriers that usually make Web3 gaming intimidating for traditional players — like dealing with crypto wallets, gas fees, and complex blockchain interactions. Let’s break down these three things a little more! No Need for a Crypto Wallet – Your Items, No Extra Steps Normally, Web3 games make you set up a crypto wallet (like MetaMask), which is like having to open a whole new bank account just to play a game. With Open Loot, that’s not necessary. When you sign up, it automatically creates a secure wallet for you in the background—no confusing setup, no seed phrases to write down. You just log in like you would for any other game. No Gas Fees – No Hidden Costs When You Trade or Buy In most Web3 games, every transaction (like buying or trading an item) comes with a “gas fee,” which is like paying a small toll just to move your own stuff around. Open Loot removes this completely—you can buy, sell, and trade items without worrying about surprise costs. Everything just works, like it would in a regular online game. NFT Ownership Without the Complexity – Just Think of Them as Game Items In Web3 games, items are often NFTs (which just means they are uniquely yours and can be traded). But usually, managing them is a pain—you have to learn about wallets, blockchains, and how to “mint” items. With Open Loot, your in-game items still work like normal. If you ever want to sell or trade them, that option is there, but you don’t need to do anything special. If you’ve ever bought a Fortnite skin or a CS:GO knife, it’s pretty much the same experience—except you can actually sell it if you want. Pay with Regular Money – No Need to Buy Crypto A lot of Web3 games make you first buy cryptocurrency before you can purchase anything, which is like being told you can’t buy a game on Steam unless you first exchange your pounds or dollars for some weird digital coins. Open Loot skips all that. You can buy items with a credit card, PayPal, or other normal payment methods—just like any other online store. Blockchain Tech Stays in the Background – You Just Play In some Web3 games, the blockchain stuff is shoved in your face—you have to manage wallets, approve transactions, and deal with delays. Open Loot makes all of that invisible. You log in, play, earn, buy, and trade just like you would in any other game. The only difference? You actually own your items instead of the game locking them to your account forever. TL;DR it allows traditional players to play Web3 games in a familiar way while still benefiting from true asset ownership, trading, and rewards.
